Do restaurants in the UK have to show allergens and calories?
Updated:
Short answer
Yes. Every food business must be able to tell customers whether a dish contains any of the 14 regulated allergens, and in England businesses with 250 or more employees must also show calories, in kcal per portion, since 6 April 2022. In Palato, allergens and calories come from the recipe and show on every dish of your QR menu.
What the rules ask for
- Allergens: accurate information on the 14 regulated allergens for every dish, including specials
- Calories (England, 250+ employees): kcal per portion wherever guests choose, with the 2,000 kcal a day statement
How to get your menu ready in Palato
- 1Add your recipes; allergens are suggested from the ingredients (all 14).
- 2Enter calories once on the recipe; they flow to the menu.
- 3Your QR menu shows ingredients, allergens and calories on every dish.
- 4When a recipe changes, the menu updates from the same place; no second list to keep.
